Tokyo’s enchanting winter romance beneath the snow

At the end of January, Tokyo was swept into one of its most severe winters on record. On January 23, a powerful snowstorm blanketed the city with 23 centimeters of snow, disrupting transportation and leaving daily life at a standstill. Yet, amid the frozen silence, photographers—most notably Yuichi Yokota—found inspiration in the city’s transformation. With his lens, Yokota beautifully documented Tokyo’s poetic charm as snowflakes fell softly across the metropolis in early 2018.
