A local crochet class has crafted a massive sunshade to provide relief from the intense heat of a Spanish town. The creation is both incredibly artistic and highly functional.
In southern Spain, battling the summer heat can indeed be an art form—and the town of Alhaurín de la Torre in Malaga is no exception. Local crochet teacher Eva Pacheco and her class took on the challenge by crafting a vast array of crocheted squares to cover the main shopping street in the town center.
This stunning piece of art replaces a large plastic tarp previously installed by the town council, offering a much more eco-friendly and colorful alternative. The massive sunshade spans nearly 500 square meters (5,380 square feet) and features geometric patterns, organic shapes resembling stepping stones, and other symbols and colors chosen by the students.
